What other strategy provides the benefit of increasing your Website page rank through the numerous inbound links it produces? What other strategy can effectively generate interested visitors to your URL? What is my top marketing strategy and the top marketing strategy for the vast majority of marketers to drive targeted visitors to their sites? Article Marketing, of course!

Oh but wait, the key to a successful article marketing campaign is to produce unique articles each filled with unique content. The effectiveness of article marketing has been declining for several years, until now. What had happened was that Google started to recognize articles that were being submitted everywhere containing duplicate content. They soon instituted a filter that so called “weeded out” these duplicate content articles and therefore stripping the inbound links generated from your pages or article submissions. The result was that about one in 19 inbound links counted positively towards your page ranking.

What is our solution? As I mentioned in the previous paragraph, submitting articles with unique content! Submitting to thousands of publishers as I do, you need an article submission software that can handle this daunting task.

So, how do you overcome this duplicate tragedy? By using the best and most powerful article marketing tool that I can recommend is Article Pro Software. It can randomly select paragraphs from the three different articles you write and compile them into hundreds and thousands of unique articles. That’s right, only three different articles you need to write, not hundreds or even thousands!

Allow me to explain…You actually write one original article and then rewrite it again twice keeping the same paragraph structure. If you have a 5 paragraph article with three different versions it actually randomly creates what looks like 125 different article you are submitting. If you have a 6 paragraph article with three different versions it randomly creates what looks 216 different articles. Remember, Google’s duplicate filter would catch about 17 in about 18 duplicate articles. But now, by submitting unique articles you can effectively have most all of your articles accepted and listed in Google. Through testing, it has been proven that 300 duplicate articles shrink to about 16 or 17 that count as inbound links toward your page rank. By submitting unique articles and retaining those inbound links, you would end up with 18.75 times more effectiveness or 1875% more effectiveness as a percentage figure. Eureka!

Yes, you can really get hundreds or thousands of inbound links coming to your site! Links that search engines love to see, links that are driving you interested traffic, links that blast your page rank higher with each article submission. What other strategy has the dynamics to generate that amount of inbound links in such a minimal amount of time?

What are you waiting for? Lets get submitting those unique articles. Article Pro Software will take care of submitting all those unique articles for you at the click of your mouse so you don’t have to sit there and write hundreds, if not thousands, of unique articles. It would take you years to accomplish what can be done in a matter of hours. Now that is an amazing marketing tool that every article marketer should have!

If your not ready to purchase this article Submission Software yet, then you must submit unique articles to be effective. Try and make them as unique as possible manually by hand. This is the best way, and my #1 strategy for generating huge amounts of URL traffic.

If you have been looking for a way to get visitors to your website that are interested in you product or information I can show you three steps that can help get you the customers you need.

What you need is targeted traffic and I’m going to show you one way you can get that.It is possible to organize you website in a manner that will cause only the people that are interested in what you have to offer to come stop by. First off when most people first start out on the Internet they usually make some huge website with no niche and then go out and use some FFA’s to post an ad, then they sit back and wonder why no one is coming to there website.

To keep this simple we will break it down into three steps. Step one, find one and only one keyword and focus you entire attention on that keyword. Some experts will tell you this is wrong that you should mass market and in some cases this is true but if you don’t have any foundation, mentor or lot’s of capitol believe me one keyword at a time is the route to go.

Now don’t just pick any keyword, you must do some keyword research there are many keyword tools out there a couple are keyword locator, keyword elite, good keywords, and many more but if you want to do it the free way you can use the overture keyword tool just type that into the search engine you will find it.

Make sure you do a good job a picking you keyword because you want a keyword that enough people search for a month. Now that you have targeted you keyword you will focus all you efforts to target you traffic at that keyword (ready aim fire!). OK so now we have a keyword now on to step two. Targeted traffic step two, optimize you homepage to that keyword.

Take that keyword and go crazy put it everywhere in you meta tags which break down into meta keywords and meta description if you don’t know what I’m talking about then you should do some quick research on it. Meta tags use to be a big thing for search engines but since most people started stuffing hundreds of keywords into there meta tags it became a problem. For the keywords portion use you targeted keyword in different ways like say your keyword is targeted traffic then you would use (targeted traffic, how to get targeted traffic, buy targeted traffic) and more but you focus is still on you main keyword the other examples you will focus on afterwords and that is when you start seeing the pay off. When writing the meta description make sure the you use the keyword at least two times unless you description is very short.

OK now I’m going to list all the other places your keyword should be. For targeted traffic you should place the keyword in the headline, title, at least one in every paragraph, alt image tag (this is the words that pop up if you hover the mouse over an image), bold the keyword once or twice if it is a long page, make the keyword a link on you page also have it go to some page on your website.

Now that you have done all that your getting closer to targeted traffic to your website, see how I keep using that word targeted traffic it’s because that’s what I’m targeting this article to because when people look for targeted traffic on a search engine I want them to find me because what I offer they could really use to increase there targeted traffic so at the end of this article I will include a link and it will be targeted traffic highlighted which is getting to the main part of targeting your viewer’s.

Links to your website, as far as search engine rank goes this is the most important part the more links you have pointing back at you with you targeted keyword as the anchor text the higher you are ranked for that word. So how to you get those links pointing back at your website. Targeted Traffic step three, you focus should be on building links this can be done by trading links with other websites or link directory’s,writing press releases, writing articles like this one and then submitting them to an article website, use social bookmarking and tag you site as your keyword, leave posts in forums (make sure what you writing is relevant) then put you link in your signature or in the post, and then there are many more ways to promote your website which are very good but right now I’m focusing on raising you up the search engines.

Targeted Traffic is not hard to get it just takes some effort and there are many tools that automate this process so that you can spend more time on the fun parts like spending time with loved ones and cashing checks or whatever you like to do, I would go into more detail about these automated software’s and services but then i might as well write an ebook which I think i might.

So that wasn’t so hard find a keyword, put it in all the important places, then get other websites to point at you with that keyword it’s that easy. I hope you enjoyed this if you know something I don’t or see something that I said that is incorrect please email me I am always learning and if you plan on staying on top you should do the same. OK your ready go out there and get your targeted traffic.

Email Marketing with your own responsive Opt-In list is the secret to success in building your online business.

Before revealing the tricks of the trades, there are a few myths and fallacies that need to be cleared up. These common marketing misconceptions could be obstacle to you profiting from your online business.

Email marketing is one of the most cost effective marketing methods today because virtually everyone uses email. When you are filling out various forms for processing different transactions online your email address is always required. A person without an email address is like a person without an online home, which is inexcusable for someone in this generation.

Direct Email marketing (Spam) campaigns can offend a lot of people. The secret way around this problem is through permission-based marketing or Opt-In.

Here’s how you can benefit from the power of email marketing campaigns – building an Opt-In list.

Building an good Opt-In list is not a cake walk for everyone, particularly for the uninformed. Here is a rundown of tips on how you can succeed with Opt-In Email Marketing.

1. Strategic Data Collection

Capture the email address from your site visitors. This will help you to build your business and make sales skyrocket. There are several tactics you can use to make people voluntarily provide you with their personal information. This will make it easier to get higher conversions.

Ask only for the Opt-In, with their first name and email addresses.

2. Good Implementation

The old saying holds true – ‘action speaks louder than words’. This easily translates to the difficulty people have when they go to executetheir email marketing efforts.

There are various methods, often low-cost, around to help you build your Opt-In database.

Tracking your email marketing results is important. You can use special software to handle this aspect of your marketing. This will help you to keep track of where your Opt-Ins are coming from.

The following are the most widely used methods to leverage your Opt-In campaign without overspending:

1. Use a Squeeze Pages.

This is an excellent tool for data collection and can providing you with fresh leads. Offer a Bribe, or Free Offer in exchange for their email address. Use forms that collect your visitor’s name and email address.

2. You can use of print ads, brochures, TV, radio and direct mail.

These are the more traditional ways of marketing that still work to generate traffic to your site. You may want to ask for signups for email services. Make your website more visible through these media. Offering a free newsletters and or a free product or service can work to get the email from your visitors.

3. Maximize your sales force.

An Affiliate Program can help you to benefit more from your email marketing campaign. Affiliates people with proper training on how to attract visitors can help you to get more Opt-In subscribers. 4. Don’t make your point of sale confusing.

Forms for signup located at the right spot on your Squeeze Page and other high-traffic pages can be very excellent ways for your business to collect email addresses. Notification of upcoming sales or some free bonus can be enough to coax them to supply you with the information you need.

5. Conferences or trade shows can work, too.

Using Offline techniques can work well and should be used in addition to Online Methods. Giveaway offers or entries in a contest are a great incentive for people to volunteer their contact details.

These tactics should be applied with caution and you should focus on earning the trust of your Opt-In list instead of simply collecting data for your own benefit. Always make sure that the forms and other methods that you use will not be too difficult to use for the subscriber. You don’t want people to not be annoyed during the sign up process.

Armed with this information, you can’t go wrong building your opt-in list!

Now don’t get all upset, as we are going to talk about the other
S-word and that would be S*P*A*M. The * is in between the
letters because just the use of this S-word can cause your email
to not be delivered. The S-word is considered to have happened
when you send an unsolicited email to someone. Unsolicited means
they did not specifically request your information and this is
where things get a little dicey. People subscribe to free offers
online, but they forget to read the small print and that small
print will tell them they are agreeing to receive offers from
third parties. Their email is then sold to dozens of people who
in turn might sell it to dozens of other people. The result is
the person who wanted to get a free coupon to a restaurant will
now start receiving offers for a variety of products and
services. Now, most of these people who buy these leads are
honest and caring people and if someone asks to be removed from
their list, they will be removed. The problem comes from the
real S-worders who buy large number of leads and will never
remove an email address. Plus, if you click on the remove link,
not only does it not remove you, but it confirms to these people
that your email address is valid and they will start sending
more junk to you. In addition, there is software that is readily
available on the Internet that will allow someone to harvest
millions of email addresses. Harvesting emails for those of you
who do not know is the ability for this software to pick up your
email from your webpage, a blog, an article, heck I would not be
surprised if they can’t get my email address off my business
card! So who do we blame for S-word?

1) We can blame the greedy people who subscribe to offers to get
something free and do not read the fine print.

2) We can blame the greedy people who purchase these lists of
greedy people who want to get something free and do not read the
fine print and then these people who purchased the lists start
blasting emails selling everything under the sun at rock bottom
prices.

3) We can blame the greedy people who buy from the greedy people
who purchase these lists of greedy people who want to get
something free and do not read the fine print and then these
people who purchased the lists start blasting emails selling
everything under the sun at rock bottom prices.

4) We can blame the politicians and media who keep the S-word in
the newspapers and on the front of everyone’s mind.

5) We can blame the Internet for being such an economical and
practical marketing source.

6) We can blame the ISP’s who send the emails to their members
and subscribers.

7) We can blame the Autoresponder companies. After all their
services allow people to send lots of mail.

8) We can blame ourselves. Tough call isn’t it? The point is, we
all have something to do with the S-word and we are all
responsible for getting rid of it. When I first started in
marketing, the Internet had not been invented yet and the way we
promoted our company was to send direct mail. This was harmless
because if someone did not want it, they could simply throw it
away, but boy did we catch it from people who wanted to
literally remove parts of our body that we had become quite fond
of. You don’t hear much about direct mail anymore because the
S-word has taken over the news. The problem is the S-word cannot
be stopped by legislation or politicians or rules because the
people who are really abusing the email system are using
techniques so they cannot be tracked. The S-Cop site is out to
get rid of the S-word and while I applaud their effort, going
after the little guy is not going to get rid of the problem. The
only way to get rid of the S-word outside of charging a fee to
send and receive email is to educate people. We need to educate
the greedy people who still think they can get something for
free on the Internet. We need to educate the people who are
purchasing lists of names in small quantities and sending
multiple emails without giving the receiver a chance to breathe
in between messages. We need to educate the Autoresponder
providers to just say no to someone who wants to send bunches of
email with purchased lists. We need to educate the people who
continue to buy from the big S-worders because lets face it, if
bulk email did not work, people would not send it. Someone is
buying something from these people and whether they are doing it
because they get a good price or because they are naive and
believe the message, does not matter. The illegal drug trade
would dry up if people did not continue to buy illegal drugs.
Terrorism would stop being a way to change policies if the media
did not give these people mention in their newspapers and on
television and radio. The S-word is working for some people and
it will continue to work and be a problem for all of us until
everyone stops buying from them. The purpose of this article is
to help educate people. If one person reads this article and
avoids subscribing to get a free restaurant voucher, because he
knows that he is going to get hit with bunches of emails, then
we will have accomplished our goal. We, those of us working
online need to make the S-word go away, because if we leave up
to the politicians and lawyers, we the people who most depend on
the Internet and email will be paying to send our email in the
very near future. Personally, I do not want this to happen. I
want the government and the lawyers as far away from the
Internet as we can keep them because all in all the Internet
works very well. However if we get the government involved, we
might as well get prepared to start paying to send emails and
also get use to 28k modems because they would take us back that
far if they are allowed to interfere. S-word is not coming from
the reputable companies and people online. S-word is coming from
people that do not care about laws or what is right or wrong.
They only care about the dollar and they won’t stop as long as
they are making dollars, and they are only going to make dollars
if people keep supporting them!

Let’s get started with this important… Employ some form of exclusivity in your product launch in order to develop curiosity. For instance, announce that you will only allow a total of 25 affiliates to join your program – and all those who do will receive some sort of benefits. Consider making affiliates fill out an application to join. Believe it or not, this will actually create curiosity. If you thought that was interesting, just wait until you hear…

Offer to provide free affiliate link protection software for all of your prospective affiliates. Hackers can now rather easily steal links that are not protected by some type of encoding or guarding system. Protecting your affiliates will not only help them out, but it will also ensure that you do not run into any problems with disgruntled sellers. Before you move on to the next section, you will want to consider…

Ask your joint venture partners to help you recruit affiliates. For instance, if they can broker a deal between you and their top selling affiliates, you will pay them a certain amount per affiliate. Even if you have to pay more than you earn from these affiliates, this will always be a good deal, as it will provide you with new affiliates for future launches. Now that we’ve discussed, let’s move on to…

Consider using Clickbank for your affiliate program. Not only will they cut checks for you and your partners, but they will also track sales and setup an easy means through which to create affiliate Ids for your product. Additionally, using Clickbank will make your affiliates far more likely to trust you, as it is an established company with a history of timely payments.

Offer a free affiliate marketing coaching session with all of your affiliates. This might sound like a pain, but it can actually help you considerably. Not only will it instill trust for you in them, but it can also help them out seriously if they are having a hard time with a specific marketing strategy. Most will not take you up on this offer, but it will be helpful for those who do.

Create samples for your affiliates, so they have something to give to prospective customers. For instance, with a video product, take clips from the video; and for audio, do the same thing. For software, you may want to create a demo version. Allowing your affiliates to distribute this demo and sample products will increase their conversion rates.

If applicable, offer to personalize your product for each of your affiliates. For instance, if you are selling software, offer to create a special download after for them personally – and even add text that uses their specific business name and information, rather than your own. This is always an attractive offer for affiliates who are interested in branding. But don’t wait. Get started right now…

Believe it or not, there are many rather popular website
promotion methods that actually drive traffic away from your
website. They usually clutter up your website with a bunch of
graphics and do virtually nothing to improve your bottom line.
Here are just a few examples:

Top Sites – The premise is that you put a vote button on
your site and people click to vote for you, raising your site up
in the list of “top sites”. People who visit the top site list
see your site near the top and click on your banner to see what
your site is all about. Things to consider: You have to
put a graphic on your site. Of course, you will make the link
open in a new window, so you don’t lose your visitor, but you
have created a distraction for your visitor. You want your
visitor to focus on your sales message, not a graphic that leads
your visitors away from your website. Let’s be serious. If
you’ve participated in a Top Site or visited a top site page,
when’s the last time you did any shopping from it?
Realistically, the Top Site List serves to best promote the
website that created the list rather than the individuals on
that list. Check your website stats to see how much traffic you
get from this list and see if anyone buys.

Banner Exchange – Everyone participating in the exchange
places a banner on his site. This banner rotates throughout the
participating sites every time a page refreshes. The premise is
that you get a lot of exposure by having your banner appear on a
number of sites. Things to Consider: Again, you have to
put a distracting graphic on your site. Usually banner exchanges
are made up of like-sites. Why would you send your visitor to
your competitor?! Most banner exchanges give you one impression
of your banner for every two times the banner exchange appears
on your website. Does it seem wise to possibly give away two
visitors for every one visitor you might get back to your site?
As in the Top Site List, the banner exchange serves best to
promote the website that created it. The banner exchange usually
has a link to the creator’s site underneath the banner. This is
the one link that doesn’t change on the rotation, thus, giving
the creator constant exposure on all sites, but giving you very
little in return.

Web Rings – A web ring is a graphic placed on a website
that allows visitors to travel from one related website to
another. The idea is that everyone puts the graphic on her home
page to create a continuous “ring”. Things to Consider:
It’s the same old story. You’re creating a distraction for your
visitor and potentially sending your traffic to your competitor.
It just doesn’t seem like a good idea. These rings are often
broken by members and you never know it.

And even more BAD ideas…

Buying Hits – It is so sad, but there is an entire
industry that takes advantage of traffichungry website owners.
If you see an ad that says, “Buy 10,000 targeted hits” or an
eBay auction that says, “2 Million Hits to Your Website,” run
the other way. Here’s how these programs work: Your
entire web page pops-up while somebody is surfing another
website or is using particular software. Sometimes these hits
are delivered within in a day or a few days and you have no idea
where your site is popping up. You must realize that these
aren’t bonus fide visitors to your website; it’s just people who
may have been annoyed by your website popping up in their faces.
Let’s go back to our conversion rate calculations. We know that
a 1% conversion rate isn’t bad. If buying hits was a good idea,
we would get 100 sales for every 10,000 hits we bought. We’ve
tested this. It just doesn’t happen. And don’t be fooled by
people who tell you they can target your hits by country or
industry. There is NOTHING targeted by forcing someone to view
your website without permission.

Surfing for Traffic – There are all kinds of programs
where you can surf other people’s websites in return for other
people surfing yours. These programs are generally free.

Search Engine Submission – It’s big business but is a
COMPLETE waste of time and money
– Let us start by saying
that you should NEVER pay anyone to submit your website to
search engines. First of all, many of these programs use
auto-submitters, which are against many search engine
guidelines. But the biggest “scam” of all is that these
companies will say things like: “Submit your site to the top 500
search engines” “Your site submitted to 5000 search engines”
Let’s be serious. There aren’t 5000 worthwhile search engines,
let alone 500. There are just a handful of search engines that
will bring you a significant amount of traffic. These include
Google, Yahoo, and MSN. Then you’ll probably see some traffic
from AOL, Netscape, Ask Jeeves, EarthLink, DogPile and a few
more. But you know what? You don’t actually have to submit to
these sites to get listed. Search engines follow links on the
Internet and if you have websites linking to you, these search
engines will find you. So, if you want to get listed and stay
listed, all you need is to acquire a few links to your website.
If you don’t believe us, take it from Google & Yahoo:

Google Webmaster Guidelines: “We add thousands of new
sites to our index each time we crawl the Web, but if you’d
like, you may submit your URL as well. Submission is not
necessary and does not guarantee inclusion in our index. Given
the large number of sites submitting URLs, it’s likely your
pages will be found in an automatic crawl before they make it
into our index through the URL submission form… …The best
way to ensure Google finds your site is for your page to be
linked from lots of pages on other sites. Google’s robots jump
from page to page on the Web via hyperlinks, so the more sites
that link to you, the more likely it is that we’ll find you
quickly.”

Yahoo Help: “Yahoo! Search crawls the web every 2-4
weeks and automatically finds new content for indexing. If pages
already in the Yahoo! Search index link to your site, it will be
considered for inclusion in the next update of the index.”

So, If you want a search engine to index you, get links from
other sites on similar topics

If you have been looking for a way to make money online then you have probably come across the concept of affiliate marketing. The question is whether or not this type of internet business is worth pursuing? The short answer is a definite yes especially for those that do not have the knowledge, expertise and capital to create and promote a top quality product.

You can instead become a partner selling a top product and generate sales through your affiliate links for which you will receive commissions. What is best way to get started with affiliate marketing? The first step is product selection. When you are choosing an affiliate product to promote you need to make sure that it will be worth your while in terms of commission rates for you to promote. Initially it may be best to stick with products selling for less than $50 since most people are reluctant to make big purchases through the internet.

This is why selling information products may be the best way to start since these kinds of products are not sold in stores and are naturally tailored for sale on the internet. In addition most information products offer very good commission rates and also the conversion rates can also be very good. Many people will readily pay for quality information products that they can buy and use immediately through a digital download. The instant download and use property of information products can make them big sellers online.

The number of information products and digital affiliate programs are significant so choosing a few quality ones to promote can be a difficult task. Sometimes learning from the success of others can be a good way to start. Look at high ranking sites for competitive keywords and see what kinds of affiliate products they are promoting. Perhaps the best collection of information products can be found at Clickbank.

Clickbank is an online digital retailer and they offer a secure way to sell digital products online and also have an affiliate program for those products. Thus if you have a unique idea for an ebook or software program then consider placing it on Clickbank and take advantage of the thousands of affiliates that can sell your products for you. Make sure to offer generous commissions at least fifty percent since many affiliates will be spending money on advertising to send traffic to your sales page.

Make sure to select products that are in high demand so this will require that you do some initial keyword research. Use free keyword tools like the Google keyword tool or the Overture tool and make sure the main keywords for your niche have at least fifty to a hundred thousand searches a month. Once you have determined that there is a need for your potential affiliate products the next step is to look at the gravity figure in the Clickbank system for the products.

It may be best to stick with products that are in the 30 to 50 gravity range as these products are not too popular and at the same time have proven themselves to be good sellers. Also make sure to look at the sales page and ensure that it looks professional and convincing and has quality testimonials. Also consider actually buying the product and testing it for yourself to make sure that it is of the best quality. Never promote garbage quality products. Use promotion methods like article marketing, search engine optimization and pay per click advertising to promote your affiliate products so research further into those marketing methods in order to generate sales through your affiliate links.

Block Spam and Other Email Threats From Entering Your Gateway
Spam, commonly defined as unsolicited commercial email, is a
powerful advertising channel for many products and services. As
a result, spamming has become a profitable business, driven by
the low cost of sending email compared to other direct marketing
techniques. The high return on investment for spammers has
resulted in an overwhelming volume of unwanted messages in
personal and business email boxes. Consider this: Conducting a
direct mail campaign costs an average of $1.39 per person,
meaning that a response rate of 1 in 14 is necessary just to
break even on a product with a $20 gross profit. Selling the
same item via unsolicited spam email costs only $0.0004 per
person, meaning that a response rate of 1 in 50,000 gets the
seller back to break-even; anything above that is gravy. With
profit margins like these, it’s easy to see why spammers will
try anything to get past anti spam technology to deliver their
messages to your inbox.

Types of Spam Threats The recent onset of fraudulent spam
variants such as phishing and spoofing pose an even greater risk
than the spam volume clogging email servers. Spammers use
techniques such as phishing and spoofing to fool users into
opening messages that, at first glance, appear innocuous.

Phishing Phishing is a specific type of spam message that
solicits personal information from the recipient. Phishers use
social engineering techniques to fool end users into believing
that the message originated from a trusted sender, making these
attacks especially dangerous because they often con victims into
divulging social security numbers, bank account information or
credit card numbers. In one six-month period from November 2003
to May 2004, phishing attacks increased in frequency by 4000%,
and the trend continues upward.

An example of phishing is an email that appears to come from a
bank requesting that users log into their account to update or
correct personal information. When the users follow a link
embedded in the email, they are redirected to a site that looks
and behaves like the expected bank website. However, unbeknownst
to the soon-to-be identity theft victims, the site is actually
controlled by the scam artists who sent the email; any and all
information entered by the victim can now be used in a variety
of ways, none of them good.

Spoofing Spoofing is a deceptive form of spam that hides the
domain of the spammer or the spam’s origination point. Spammers
often hijack the domains of well-known businesses or government
entities to make spam filters think the communication is coming
from a legitimate source.

Today’s spammers are more crafty than ever before and have begun
blending elements of both phishing and spoofing into their
messages, further spinning their web of deception. The toxic
combination of spoofing and phishing presents a major threat
that can trick most anyone into providing personal information
to a stranger.

Toothless Legislation On January 1, 2004, President Bush signed
into law the “Controlling the Assault of Non-Solicited
Pornography and Marketing Act of 2003,” or “CAN-SPAM” Act. While
well intentioned, CAN-SPAM has done little or nothing to curb
the flow of unwanted email. In fact, an estimated 97% of all
spam email sent in 2004 violated the Act, and the United States
still dwarfs other nations in terms of the origin of spam, with
CipherTrust research revealing that an astonishing 56.77% of all
spam comes from U.S.-based IP addresses. While CAN-SPAM was
designed to decrease the overall volume of spam, the exact
opposite has happened: in 2004, spam accounted for approximately
77% of all email traffic, and phishing attacks continue to
increase exponentially, with studies showing an increase of
4000% from November 2003 to May 2004.

Anti Spam Software for the Desktop The dramatic increase in spam
volume has prompted a corresponding surge in stand-alone anti
spam software solutions for the desktop, all with varying levels
of effectiveness. Some anti spam software uses text filtering to
screen incoming messages for known characteristics of spam,
while other solutions rely solely on reputation systems that
monitor and categorize email senders by IP address according to
their sending behavior. Still other anti spam software uses
“challenge/response filters” to block unapproved mail until the
sender responds (manually) to a challenge email sent to their
email account to verify his or her identity.

With so many different methods of filtering spam, no single
software-based desktop anti spam solution is capable of
effectively stopping spam before it reaches the inbox. The only
way to successfully fight spam is to create an anti spam
“cocktail” including reputation services, text filters, constant
updates and a host of other best-of-breed spam blocking methods.
Just as importantly, an effective anti spam solution should
reside at the email gateway, not at the desktop. Without
protection at the gateway, mail servers waste massive amounts of
bandwidth and storage space processing every message, wanted or
not, and end users face the unenviable task of deciding what to
do with the countless spam messages that successfully reach
them.

Take a Consolidated Approach to Anti Spam Although it takes a
person only a moment to process a message and identify it as
spam, it is difficult to automate that human process because no
single message characteristic consistently identifies spam. In
fact, there are hundreds of different message characteristics
that may indicate an email is spam, and an effective anti spam
solution must be capable of employing multiple spam detection
techniques.

In addition to effectively identifying spam, businesses must be
assured that legitimate mail is not blocked in error. Even one
false positive, or incorrectly blocked email, can have a
significant impact on businesses today. Accurate spam blocking
requires a combination of tools to examine various message
criteria combined with real-time research and intelligence data.

By aggregating multiple spam detection technologies like text
filtering, reputation services, traffic analysis and other
best-of-breed techniques, and placing the solution at the email
gateway in a hardened appliance, enterprises can retake control
of the inbox.

You’ve heard it before, your best friend online is your opt-in
email list.

Time and time again you have heard how important it is to
develop a list of email subscribers that will allow you to place
your products, special offers and priceless information in front
of them on a regular basis.

Not sure about that? Let’s consider the facts: Fact: Online
buyers are skeptical.

Fact: Online buyers need to trust you before they buy from you.

Fact: Online buyers require your product or service to be placed
in front of them an average of 7 times before they actually buy
from you.

Fact: Buyers that buy from you once are likely to buy from you
again.

Fact: Your email subscribers need to be extremely targeted
(interested) in what you have to offer.

Fact: Most visitors leave your site and never return.

So what do these facts mean to you? They mean your success as an
online marketer depends on creating, nurturing and communicating
with an opt-in email list.

This is what your email list will do for you:

- Allow you to capture your visitor so you can get them to
return to your site on a regular basis.

- Allow your visitors to develop a trust in you. The best way I
know to gain trust is to communicate with people. Tell them what
you’re about, what you offer and what your products and services
can do for them.

- Keep them abreast of new products, specials and events. If
they had a positive buying experience once, they’re likely to
buy again.

If you’re a savvy business person and understand how this
strategy can help you build a successful online business here’s
what you’ll need to do.

1) Publish A Newsletter This is not as hard as it sounds. Start
with a simple informational newsletter that you can send to your
readers at a minimum of once a month, preferably once a week.
Offer information relating to your products or services and
sprinkle it with sales offers, product information, website
updates, FAQ’s, etc. Keep your newsletters fun and develop a
writing style that has flair. You want your readers to look
forward to hearing from you. Encourage feedback, respond quickly
to inquiries and be helpful.

2) Invest In An Email Autoresponder An autoresponder service or
Autoresponder Software will automatically collect your email
list information. It will also allow you to send emails
automatically to your list. You can pre-write your emails and
schedule them however you wish. It will also send auto replies
for any email you receive. The options are tremendous, however
the key is automation and we all need lots of that.

3) Set Up An Email Opt-in Form Typically your autoresponder will
help you create a form to put on your website. The key to
setting up an opt-in form is to keep it simple. You only need to
request a name and email address. Also be sure to state on your
form that you will not sell or share email addresses with anyone.

4) Offer Free Incentives As an incentive to getting your viewers
to subscribe to your newsletter offer them something free. You
can write a simple e-book and give it away, or find an e-book
online that you can give away.

Remember that if you really want someone to do something, it
helps if you can give them something in return for their
patronage.

5) Write articles Writing articles is an excellent way to get
subscribers. It works by placing a link to your newsletter
subscription in the byline of your article. If someone enjoys
your article they’re very likely to want to find out more and
subscribe.

Not a writer? Not a problem. There are plenty of people out
there willing to write articles for very reasonable fees. The
amount of sign-ups you gain and the potential for sales can more
than make of for the cost of the article.

6) Write an e-book Did you ever write a term paper in school?
Writing an e-book is not much different. If you are
knowledgeable enough to have a product and a website, you are
knowledgeable enough to write an informative and useful e-book
on your topic. Think carefully about your products or services
and list everything you know about it. You might be surprised at
how much you really know.

An e-book will capture email addresses because your e-book
should promote your newsletter link as well as your website
link. Try giving away your e-book to other business owners to
use as a free give away. Once your e-book gets into the hands of
interested parties, you’re email list will grow like wildfire.

7) Join and participate in online forums. Respond to comments,
answer questions and give advice when you can. Most forums allow
you to create a signature line which you can setup with the link
to your newsletter opt-in form or the page of your website that
has your form on it. Another excellent way to build trust,
promote your expertise or simply make a few business
acquaintances.

If you can offer valuable information for free, establish
yourself as an expert and remind your viewers to come back to
your site, you’ll be well on your way to achieving increased
traffic and in return, increased sales.
